The manager of a department store came to checkon his new salesman. In fact, it was really amegastore--you could get anything there.
"How many sales did you make today?" the managerasked.
"One," replied the new guy.
"Only one?" said the manager. "Most of my staff make some 20 sales a day. How much was thesale worth?"
The salesman answered, "$43,868."
Flabbergasted, the manager asked him to explain.
"First I sold a man a fishhook," the salesman said. "Then I sold him a rod and a reel. Then Iasked where he was going fishing, and he said down by the coast. So I suggested he'd need aboat, then I took him down to the boat department. He bought a runabout. When he said hisVolkswagen might not be able to pull it, I took him to the automotive department and sold hima big SUV."
The amazed manager asked, "You sold all that to a guy who came in for a fishhook?"
"No," the new salesman replied. "He actually came in for a bottle of aspirin for his wife'smigraine. I told him, your weekned's shot. You may as well go fishing."
