Two young engineers applied for a single poition at acomputer company. They both had the samequalifications. In order to determine which individualto hire, the applicants were asked to take a test of12 questions by the manager of human resourcesdepartment.

Upon completion of the test, both men had each missed only one of the questions. Themanager went to the first applicant and said, "Thank you for your interest, but we've decidedto give the job to the other applicant."
測(cè)試結(jié)束后,兩個(gè)人各有一個(gè)問(wèn)題沒(méi)答上來(lái),經(jīng)理對(duì)其中的一個(gè)說(shuō):“感謝你對(duì)我們公司的關(guān)注,可是我們決定聘用另一個(gè)人。”
"And why would you be doing that? We both got eleven questions correct," asked the rejectedapplicant.
“可是為什么呢?我們兩人都答對(duì)了11道題呀,”不被錄用的人問(wèn)。
"We have based our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you missed,"said the department manager.
“我們做出這個(gè)決定不是基于正確的答案,而是基于你們沒(méi)有答對(duì)的那個(gè)問(wèn)題,”經(jīng)理答道。
"And just how would one incorrect answer be better than the other?" the rejected applicantinquired.
“那么一個(gè)錯(cuò)誤答案能比另一個(gè)錯(cuò)誤答案好到哪里去呢?”不被錄用的人問(wèn)。
"Simple," said the department manager, "Your fellow applicant put down on question No.8, 'Idon't know.' You put down, 'Neither do I.''"
“很簡(jiǎn)單,”經(jīng)理說(shuō),“另一位應(yīng)聘者對(duì)于第8題的回答是‘我不知道’;而你的回答是‘我也不知道。’”
