Yahoo the Internet media heavyweight【重量級人物】reported a small first quarter profit that was quite a bit weaker than a year ago, saying it’ll lop 12 % of its work force【勞動力】as Yahoo struggles with declining advertising revenues(5).
Yahoo closing down 16 cents to 15.86. Motorola the No. 2 mobile phone maker forecasting(6) a second quarter loss a few cents more than the first quarter signaling(7) the slowdown in the tech sector may not be over. EMC the most active stock on the big board fell 2.19 to 32.21 saying it expects to miss earnings by about 10%.
