1. I don't want to go and that's that.
我不想去,就是這樣。
That's that 通常是接在否定句后的,意思是:就這樣了,不必再多說了。這樣的語氣是很強(qiáng)烈的,通常聽的人可能會(huì)不太高興。如果電話推銷員很煩人,你就可以跟他說 That's that. 也許一開始你只是很客氣地說 I am not interested. 可是有些人就會(huì)不識(shí)相地一直說個(gè)沒完:What do you want me to do to change your mind? 這時(shí)你就可以不客氣地說:I don't want it, and that's that. 通常他就會(huì)知道你是真的煩了。
That's that. 這句話跟 That's it. 不太一樣。 That's it. 的意思是"就這樣吧,就這些吧",在點(diǎn)餐的時(shí)候會(huì)用到,或者是你問別人什么,別人回答剛好對(duì)了,你也可以這么說。That's that 則是表示不想再跟對(duì)方談下去了。同樣的情況,你也可以這么說 The conversation is over. 我想這個(gè)意思也很明顯了。
2. There is nothing to talk about.
沒什么好說的。
當(dāng)別人問你的問題你不想回答或懶得回答時(shí)就可以說 There is nothing to talk about. 例如有人問你考試考了多少,你自己考得太差不想說,就可以說 There is nothing to talk about. 另外一個(gè)類似的用法叫 No comment. 就是"無可奉告"的意思。
在英語中,There is nothing to... 可當(dāng)作是一個(gè)片語來使用,意思是"沒什么好怎樣怎樣的", 例如 There is nothing to worry about. 就是說"沒什么好擔(dān)心的"。記得看某部電影時(shí)小孩子問他爸爸家里的錢到底夠不夠用時(shí),父親就說 There is nothing for you to worry about.
3. That's enough, anymore is just overkill.
那就夠了,再多一點(diǎn)也是多余的。
Overkill 這個(gè)詞在美國(guó)的口語里是"多余"的意思,在字典上是查不到的。例如有一次和一個(gè)老美打球,打了兩局后我問他還要不要再打,他就說 That's enough, anymore is just overkill. 或是吃東西時(shí)別人問你還要不要再吃,如果你吃不下了就可以說 No, thanks. That's overkill.
4. I can't handle it.
我應(yīng)付不來。
這個(gè) handle 跟 afford 的區(qū)別要分清楚,handle 指的是事情上應(yīng)付不來,而 afford 多半指金錢上無法負(fù)擔(dān)。譬如學(xué)校里,你選的課太多了應(yīng)付不來,就可以說 I took too many courses, I can't handle it. 再舉一個(gè)例子,例如工作很多作不完,你就可以這么說 There's too much workload here. I can't handle it. 這也是變相拒絕的一種方式吧。
