通關(guān)是指進出境運輸工具的負責(zé)人，貨物的收發(fā)人及其代理人，物品的所有人向海關(guān)申請辦理進出口貨物及物品的手續(xù)。海關(guān)對其呈交的單證和申請的進出口貨物或物品依法進行審核、查驗、征收稅費、批準(zhǔn)進出口的全過程。

對不同類型的進出口商品和物品有不同的檢查程序并征收不同的關(guān)稅。如果出入境者攜帶需要申報的商品或物品，應(yīng)向海關(guān)遞交申報單據(jù)，報請海關(guān)辦理出入境手續(xù)。

During the examination Customs must check whether the shipping marks, number of package, weight, specifications of the cargo, the trading country, etc.correspond with those on the licenses.

We make sure that there is no damage to or loss of the cargo, that the quality and packing are up to requirements and that there are no irregularities during loading, discharging or storing.

It comes with the territory.分內(nèi)的事。此語照字面意思來看，是“與地盤在一起的”當(dāng)然意思。其實不難理解，你買了一塊地，上面所有的東西，包括一草一木，以至于原有的所有建筑，都是你的。也含有，“無論好壞，都是你的”的意思。比如有時候身為公眾人物，難免受到大家的議論，就可以說：It doesn't disturb me. It comes with the territory.我并不介意，這種事情是意料之中的。

貨物在通關(guān)的過程中遇到了問題，貿(mào)易雙方在交流了情況后努力想辦法予以積極應(yīng)對。

A：Our agent is having a problem getting our shipment released from customs.

B：What seems to be the problem? Did you receive the complete set of shipping documents?

A：Yes, but there is a discrepancy on the packing list. It states that the carton, No 6, contains typewriters—which we didn't order. It should say copiers.

B：Oh, I'm very sorry. Someone must have made a mistake here when the packing list was prepared.

A：Obviously! But that's not the worst of problems.

B：What else is wrong?

A：The bill of lading states that the terms of payment are DP. It is wrong.

B：Oh, no.

A：Yes, and that means we have to show proof of payment before we can get the goods out of customs.

B：OK. Listen. Give me thirty minutes to check our records and get to the bottom of this, and I'll call you back then. Don't worry, we will go the whole nine yards to help your to deal with it.

nine yards指“9碼”，9含有“最大”的意思。所以，nine yards才被用來指“最大的努力”。go the whole nine yards常用來指“竭盡全力”或“不遺余力”。比如：I'll bend over backward for the future.為了將來我將竭盡全力。
