ask for the moon直譯是“要天上的月亮”，暗指“想入非非或不切實(shí)際”，與漢語“海底撈月、異想天開”相似。ask for the moon出自寓言故事—猴子撈月。一群猴子在樹上玩耍，忽然看到水塘中的月亮，于是突發(fā)奇想，要把月亮“撈”上來，猴子一個(gè)接一個(gè)的從大樹上倒掛下來，讓接近水面的猴子在水里撈月亮，其結(jié)果可想而知。英語對此語的解釋非常簡練：ask for the moon（非要做沒門的事） 。ask for the moon有時(shí)亦做cry for the moon，此語最早見于狄更斯的小說《荒涼山莊》（Bleak House）中，He was mere child in the world, but he didn't cry for the moon.（他年紀(jì)很小，可是他沒有哭著鬧著要天上的月亮。）
