Disarray among Republic Senators in the United States will almost certainly forced the National Security Agency to stop collecting the telephone data of American citizens from midnight local time.Senators are being holding a rare Sunday debate on whether to extend the measures.The Director of the CIA,John Brennan ,appeared on CBS Television and explained why he thinks the surveillance should continue.

The Opposition in Burundi has called for more street protests after Summit of East African leaders failed to address their concerns.One opposition activists,said they were disappointed that the summit failed short of calling President Pierre Nkurunziza to abandon his decision to seek reelection. Instead ,the leaders who are making it in Tanzania called for elections in Burundi to postpone for at least six weeks. Richard Hamilton reports.

The former commander of US forces in Iraq ,the retired General David Petraeus has talked the need for changes to America’s strategy as it confronts IS militants in the Iraq.He said Washington had to augment attack activities on both the military and political fronts as it works with Iraqi government. General Petraeus was speaking to Jonathan Marcus.

It is really a the conventional army he told me with insurgent and terrorist elements as well.He said the recent loss of the provincial capital of Ramadi was a strategic setback,he narrative IS being on the defensive was shown to be somewhat hollow.But he said he had no doubt the Iraqi military could defeat IS.There was not recognition in Washington, he said the change was needed.This could involved more US advisors on the ground,closer to the fighting.”
