Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes. Sometime he slept without a night light, and he could even go down to the cellar all by himself. But one day, Franklin learned that being afraid was nothing to be ashamed of…
F: Franklin makes a move around the rose bush and passes to …
F: Franklin, he shoots!
B: He SCORES!
F: You are right on time, Bear. Let’s go. Snail wants to meet us at the bridge.
B: Okay, let’s go!
F: Let’s take the shortcut!
B: Okay!
B: Huh?!? Spiders!
F: Where?
B: YAAA! They are on me! AAAH! AAAH!
F: Hold still, Bear.
B: Ohhh …Ah! There’s one crawling on my back!!
F: it’s just a leaf. See?
B: Whew!!...Uh... Why don’t we just take the long way to the bridge?
F: I’ll move him out of the way.
B: Thanks, Franklin. Spiders give me the creeps! Eww!
B: Where’s snail?
F: I don’t know. He said he’d meet us here by …
S: Franklin! Bear!
B: Snail? Oh, there you are! What’re you…
S: HIDE!
F: What are we hiding from?
S: THAT BIG HUGE GIGANTIC…WHATEVER-IT-IS!!!
F: It’s okay. Look, it’s just a little dragonfly.
B: With a BIG shadow.
S: A big SCARY shadow.
F: It doesn’t look that scary from up here, Snail. See?
S: Thanks, Franklin.
F: Come on, Bear. We’ll race you to the soccer field!
B: Hey! No fair! It’s two against one!
B: look out, Franklin!
F: Get him, Beaver!
S: Great save, Fox!
BV: Good pass, Snail!
R: Oh.. Oh! AAAAAAHHH!!
BV: Score!
R: I’m sorry, guys! I should’ve had it.
B: You’ll stop’em next time, Rabbit.
R: I’ll try…It’s just… Well… I guess I’m kinda, you know…scared of the ball hitting me.
F: Well then, why don’t I take goal?
R: Really?
F: Sure! You’re a lot faster than me. We could use you as a forward.
R: Thanks! But… aren’t you scared of getting hit with the ball?
B: Are you kidding? Nothing scares Franklin! Not even spiders!
S: Or big spooky shadows!
B: He is fearless!
S: Yeah! He is Franklin the Fearless!
FOX: Hey, are we talking or playing?
B: Yeah. I don’t know about Franklin the Fearless, but Franklin the Goalie will never stop MY shot.
FOX: Hey! I felt a drop!
R: Aww. It’s raining.
BV: Oh, great.
F: Gee. Maybe we’d better head for home.
FOX: But we barely got started.
BV: And we were winning!
R: It’s just a sprinkle. Maybe it won’t last long.
S: I know. Why don’t we wait in the library until it stops raining?
R: Good idea!
B: Let’s go!
F: OK. Race yah!
F: Well…okay.
FOX: Hurry Franklin!
S: Oooh! Look at those clouds!
F: There’s a big storm coming.
G: Oh! Dear me! Such weather! Come on in boys.
F: I really should run for it… Uh, run for home I mean. Mom’s probably wondering where I am.
G: Oh now don’t you worry Franklin. You go on and have fun. I’ll call everyone’s parents and let them know that you’re all here safe and dry.
S: Come on Franklin. This will be a good day to do the World Atlas puzzle! It’s a thousand pieces!
FOX: Does anybody have Italy’s big toe?
BV: Where did Tasmania go? It was right here a minute ago.
R: Snail’s trying to make it fit into Hawaii!
S: Oh? Sorry…
B: Does this look like a piece of the Pacific, or Atlantic Ocean?
F: Huh? Oh.. um.. Atlantic I think… or maybe Pacific.
B: Are you feeling okay Franklin?
F: Uh…Sure! I’m fine! No problem.
B: Feeling sad ’cause our soccer game got rained out?
F: Um, yeah. That’s it.
R: I don’t blame you Franklin. I was looking forward to the game all week!
FOX: Me too! And then we only got to play for about five minutes.
BV: And we were winning!
S: Ooh…Looks like it getting worse!
F: Huh? Whoa! What happened?!
BV: The power’s gone out!
F: I don’t like this.
G: Oh, my. Stay calm children. I’ll get the lantern from the storeroom.
FOX: Kinda spooky, isn’t it?
B: Yeah! I’ve never been in a library after dark.
R: Did you hear that?
F: What is it?
S: Maybe this place is …haunted!
BV: But ghosts don’t come out in the day time.
FOX: So? It’s just as DARK as night!
BV: Oh yeah! Maybe ghosts can’t tell time!
B: They probably don’t even have wristwatches!
BV: LOOK! What is it?!?
FOX: A ghost?
B: A giant spider?
R: It’s trying to get in!
F: It’s okay you guys. It’s just the wind blowing a tree branch up against the window.
FOX: Whew! Was that ever spooky! My fur was standing on end!
BV: Yeah, we were pretty scared there for a minute!
B: But not Franklin!
BV: He’s Franklin the Fearless!
F: Aw, no I’m not.
B: Sure you are! Nothing scares you!
F: No…I’m still scared of some things.
B: Like what?
F: You guys will think it’s silly. I’d rather not…YAAAAAA!!!
ALL: Oh!
B: What?
G: Here we are…Isn’t this nice and cozy?
F: I have to go home now, Mrs. Goose!!
B: Oh?
G: Oh dear. I’m sorry Franklin, but it’s best if you stay here until this storm is over.
B: You never told me you were afraid of thunderstorms Franklin!
F: I was afraid you’d laugh at me.
B: Gee. Why would I do that? You didn’t laugh at me about being scared of spiders.
R: Or me, for being scared of the soccer ball.
S: I guess we’re all afraid of something, like big spooky shadows.
B: Or climbing up really high…
FOX: How about that tree branch tapping on the window!
R: Yeah!
B: That was a good one!
BV: We were scared silly!
S: Good thing Franklin was here!
G: I used to be frightened of thunder, too, when I was just a gosling.
F: Really?
G: So my mother told me that thunder was just the sound of cloud giants laughing up a storm!
F: Cloud giants?
G: And from then on, whenever I hear thunder and think of those cloud giants laughing, I want to laugh right along! Ho ho ho ha ha ha !
FOX: My dad says thunder is the clouds going bowling.
B: My cousin says it’s the clouds playing drum up there. And he should know. He is in grade 3.
R: And lightning is just fireflies playing tag!
BV: According to Weasel the Weather Woman’s Guide to Weather, lightning is a big spark of electricity that travels from the sky to the ground. The spark is so hot that it makes the air around it POP!
F: And THAT’S the sound of thunder?
BV: Well, Weasel should know, because she is the weather woman. But I like cloud giants going bowling and laughing up a storm better.
Me too! Yeah! Me three!
F: Hey! I think I’m not so scared of thunderstorms anymore!
G: You see! If you share your fears, your friends can help you overcome them.
F: Yeah! I guess being afraid is nothing to be afraid of! Thanks for no laughing at me you guys.
B: No problem!
FOX: Same here Franklin.
BV: Way to go.
F: Hey look! A rainbow!
BV: Isn’t it pretty?
Ooh! Wow! Neat!
G: You know, they say there’s a pot of gold buried at the end of every rainbow!
F: So that’s why the storm is over!...Those cloud giants have gone to find the pot of gold!
