We should try to buy more time.

我們要設(shè)法拖延時間。

buy more time 字面意思是：“買更多的時間”，這個短語的正確意思是：“爭取時間、拖延時間”。因此，當美國人說"We should try to buy more time."時，他/她要表達的意思就是:"We should try to gain more time."、"We should try to stall for time."、"We'd better adopt a stonewalling strategy."。
