Rob Lowe has spent years of his life tracking down Bigfoot. Now, thanks to one of his 60th birthday presents, he gets to transform into one whenever he wants.
The 9-1-1: Lone Star actor and casual cryptid hunter revealed on this week’s episode of his Literally! podcast that he was gifted a Sasquatch costume on his special day last month.
“The first gift that I got for my 60th birthday someone got me — I’m not kidding — an actual Bigfoot costume,” Lowe told guest Kelly Ripa. “And what did I do? I put it on immediately, immediately, and walked around the street in a f---ing Bigfoot costume. I have the spirit of a 13-year-old boy… or a conspiracy theorist.”
Wildly enough, this isn’t the first time Lowe dressed up as the mythical creature in his spare time. The actor told Kelly Clarkson last year that he once rented a Sasquatch costume so that he could prank his sons, Matthew and John Owen, while the family was on a camping trip in the Pacific Northwest.
“I hopped out in the middle of the night and walked around the campfire in the distance making, like, horrible noises,” Lowe recalled at the time, before noting that his joke came with some pretty painful consequences. “One of them, Matthew, came up and kicked me in the you-know-whats. And I was like, 'You know what? This kid's gonna grow up to be somebody.'"
Lowe also previously told Entertainment Weekly that he had an “incredible encounter” with a “wood ape,” a.k.a. Bigfoot, while he and his sons were filming their reality series The Lowe Files in the Ozark Mountains. He added, “I was lying on the ground thinking I was going to be killed.”
Earlier on the podcast, Lowe reflected on his 60th birthday party while Ripa expressed outrage at not being invited. “There were so many highlights that I don’t even know where to begin, I really truly don’t,” he said. “We had a karaoke band… and the night ended with Good Charlotte — the Madden brothers — Katy Perry, Adam Levine, and I think my boys and I singing ‘Living on a Prayer.’”
