Sunny Hostin was told she could not repeat a quote from Donald Trump on The View Monday.
During the episode of the morning talk show, Hostin, 55, and her co-hosts were discussing Trump's recent appearance at the Black Conservative Federation Gala held on Friday, per a clip published on The View's X (formerly Twitter) account.
At the event, Trump, 77, told the audience that Black people "embraced" his mug shot. He also made inappropriate jokes about race.
After watching some video clips of his words, Hostin, 55 called the former president "hellish" and reminded her co-hosts that "only 1%" of Black voters cast their vote for Republican candidates in 2022. She also claimed there were only four Black people at the event, naming Sen. Tim Scott, Ben Carson and Rep. Byron Donalds.
"So, his message is not resonating with Black voters in the way that media is trying to say," she continued, sarcastically calling it "shocking."
Hostin then referenced Trump's 1973 housing discrimination lawsuit, the fact that he's "dined with white supremacists," and his quote that there were "fine people on both sides" after clashes between white supremacist groups and protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.
While listing Trump's offensive behavior, Hostin said, "He called countries like Haiti," she paused and then asked executive producer Brian Teta, "Can I say it? Can I say the word, Brian?" You can watch the exchange at approximately the 3:30 mark below."No, I've tried before," cohost Ana Navarro said.
Teta was seen shaking his head and saying, "No." Hostin's audio is cut and when restored, cohost Sarah Haines responded, "I don't think can't say that either."
"It's been said," moderator Whoopi Goldberg added, seemingly putting an end to the discussion.
Hostin could be heard saying "countries," meaning she was likely referring to Trump's "s--thole countries" comment. The former president said the profanity in reference to Haiti and African nations back in 2018, per the Associated Press and NBC News. Navarro has previously spoken out about Trump's use of the term.
"He falsely accused the Central Park Five," Hostin continued. "He is, according to many people, a racist. And so a racist running on racism doesn't work."
During the Hot Topic discussion, Goldberg said Trump was running on "racism and revenge."
Representatives for Hostin did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment about Monday's episode.
