According to Japanese media reports on October 16, singer Tanimura Shinji died of illness in a hospital in Tokyo on October 8, at the age of 74. Timura had been to China many times to hold events, his "Star" is the most famous, Teresa Teng, Jacky Cheung, Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung and others have covered his works.

Tanimura Shinji, born in 1948 in Osaka, Japan, is a musician and singer who is well known in the music industry in Japan and Asia. For the Chinese, his 1980 work Star has the most profound impact. Tanimura said the song was inspired by China's Heilongjiang Province, a place he yearned for. The song is loved by people all over the world, and has also been adapted into different language versions, becoming a classic. Many pop stars have also covered his works, including Teresa Teng, Jacky Cheung, Lo Wan, Alan Tam, Anita Mui, Stephen Kwan, Tsui Siu-fung, Leslie Cheung and others. He has also said that Jacky Cheung and Alan Tam are his most tacit Hong Kong friends.

Tanimura Shinji has participated in many performances about the friendship between China and Japan, including planning a series of programs such as the large-scale gala for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and he has also led, participated in and planned many Sino-Japanese songs and concerts. In 2003, in order to help China fight against SARS, Tanimura Shinji specially held a concert in Osaka, Japan, "Resist SARS, Support China", and donated all of the $180,000 brought by the concert to China. The following year, in 2004, he came to China and held a concert to thank the medical staff involved in SARS treatment.
谷村新司多次參與關(guān)于中國與日本友好的演出,包括策劃中日建交三十周年大型晚會等一系列節(jié)目,他還領(lǐng)銜、參加及策劃過多場中日歌會及演唱會。2003年,為了幫助中國抗擊非典,谷村新司特地在日本大阪舉行的《抵制非典,支援中國》演唱會,將演唱會帶來的18萬美元全數(shù)捐給中國,并在第二年,即2004年來到中國舉辦演唱會,感謝參與非典治療工作的醫(yī)務(wù)人員。
