面對(duì)同事一個(gè)個(gè)升職加薪，唯獨(dú)自己卻原地不動(dòng)，Tom感到很不舒服。他來(lái)找到Catherine聊天時(shí)談到這個(gè)問(wèn)題，Tom抱怨說(shuō)：That tears it! The boss doesn't give me a raise! Catherine聽(tīng)到Tom提到tear一詞，連忙問(wèn)：你把什么撕了？這一下子把Tom問(wèn)了個(gè)愣。

Tom: Tear what? I didn't say I tore anything.
湯姆：撕掉什么？我沒(méi)說(shuō)我撕掉了什么啊。

Catherine: I know it's me. But you've got to explain your words to me before you lose your temper.
凱瑟琳：我知道是我的問(wèn)題，但你在怕脾氣前得給我解釋下你剛才說(shuō)的話(huà)。
Tom: Well, "that tears it" means to ruin all hope, spoil everything, you say it when you think you can't bear anything.
湯姆：好吧，that tears it這句話(huà)意思是“毀掉希望，毀掉一切”。當(dāng)你覺(jué)得你無(wú)法忍受某事時(shí)，你就可以說(shuō)這句話(huà)。

That tears it! The boss doesn't give me a raise!我真是受夠了！老板不給我加薪！

大家都知道，tear這個(gè)詞作名詞時(shí)是“眼淚”之意，作動(dòng)詞時(shí)指的是“撕壞，撕破”，這里tear it的表面意思是“撕破它”，其實(shí)暗含“打破計(jì)劃，使希望破滅”之意，可翻譯為“我再也受不了了”，

即I can't bear it any more，這兩種表達(dá)都是我們?nèi)粘Ｉ钪薪?jīng)常用到的。
