Catherine最近真是運(yùn)氣不佳，工作中頻頻出錯(cuò)，接連不斷的疏忽已經(jīng)讓領(lǐng)導(dǎo)頗有微詞。這天，部門經(jīng)理把她叫到辦公室，嚴(yán)肅地對(duì)她說(shuō)：Concentrate on your job, or you'll be given the pink slip. Catherine聽(tīng)后一臉的茫然，問(wèn)道：“給我一張粉色的小紙條干嗎？“這一問(wèn)反倒把經(jīng)理給逗樂(lè)了。于是，Catherine出來(lái)后就去問(wèn)同事Jane。

Catherine: Today I was called to the manager's office, and I was told to be more careful about my job. Otherwise he'll give me the pink slip.
凱瑟琳：今天經(jīng)理把我叫到辦公室了，要我工作更細(xì)心些，否則他會(huì)給我張粉色的小紙條。

Jane: Really? That's horrible! You've got to be more careful.
珍妮：真的嗎？那太糟糕了！你還是小心點(diǎn)吧。

Catherine: What is "the pink slip"? Is it that bad?
凱瑟琳：什么是the pink slip呀？它就那么可怕嗎？

Jane: Oh, my God! If you're given the pink slip, you won't be able to work here any more, it means you'll be fired!
珍妮：哦，老天那！如果你收到the pink slip，那么你就不能再在這上班了，它意味著你會(huì)被解雇的！

Concentrate on your job, or you'll be given the pink slip. 專注于你的工作，否則你會(huì)被解雇。

concentrate on sth.意思是”專心于某事“；pink slip中slip是小紙條的意思，所以pink slip這個(gè)短語(yǔ)從表面上看，指的是一種粉色的小紙條，但在交際中它有”解雇“之意，與walking papers同義。所以，give sb. the pink slip就意味著dismiss sb.（解雇某人）。
