A: I don't know much about you. Where were you born?
我不太了解你,你是在哪兒出生的?
B: I was born in London, but I spent most of my childhood in Hong Kong.
我是在倫敦出生,在香港長(zhǎng)大的。
A: What was your childhood like?
你小時(shí)候過(guò)得怎么樣?
B: I had a pretty strict upbringing, and my parents and I were always fighting about it.
小時(shí)候家教很嚴(yán),那時(shí)我經(jīng)常為這個(gè)和我母親對(duì)著干。
A: Do you get along with your parents now?
那你現(xiàn)在跟父母相處的怎么樣了?
B: Oh sure. Once they reached middle age, they became a lot less uptight.
好多了,人近中年心態(tài)就平和多了。
A: Where did you go to university?
你在哪兒上的大學(xué)?
B: My parents wanted me to stay in Hong Kong, but I decided to go back to England. I graduated from Oxford university with a degree in English literature.
我父母想讓我留在香港,可是我自己決定回英國(guó)。后來(lái)我從牛津大學(xué)畢業(yè),并且拿到了一個(gè)有關(guān)英國(guó)文學(xué)的學(xué)位。
A: What is your current occupation?
那你現(xiàn)在做什么工作呢?
B: I'm a freelance writer. I write magazine articles and fiction books.
我是個(gè)自由撰稿人,給雜志寫(xiě)點(diǎn)文章,也寫(xiě)些小說(shuō)。
A: Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer?
當(dāng)作家是你一直以來(lái)的愿望嗎?
B: No, I didn't. I was an English teacher for about five years. But by the time I was 30, I decided I wanted a fresh challenge.
不是。以前我做過(guò)五年的英語(yǔ)老師,后來(lái)30歲那年,我覺(jué)得自己需要一些新鮮的挑戰(zhàn)。
A: How did you start writing?
那你是如何踏上寫(xiě)作之路的呢?
B: I started writing magazine articles for fun and eventually was asked to write a book, so I was pretty lucky.
起初我只是給雜志寫(xiě)點(diǎn)小文章,寫(xiě)著玩兒。后來(lái)就有人請(qǐng)我寫(xiě)書(shū),其實(shí)我挺幸運(yùn)的。
A: Are you writing a book now?
你現(xiàn)在還在寫(xiě)書(shū)嗎?
B: Yes, it's about a group of friends living in a foreign country and all the strange experiences they have.
有的。是一本關(guān)于幾個(gè)朋友生活在異國(guó)他鄉(xiāng)的奇特經(jīng)歷。
A: Sounds interesting.
