Mike: You're doing some gardening.

Scarlet: I'm redoing the backyard.

Mike: Oh.

Scarlet: You want to see?

Mike: Yeah, sure. I got some time. Oh, wow.

Scarlet: Yeah. Obviously, I still have a lot to do. You can put that...

Mike: Right here?

Scarlet: Yeah.

Mike: All right.

Scarlet: Thank you. So this is it.

Mike: This is it.

Scarlet: It used to look a lot worse.

Mike: Mm-mm.

Scarlet: Basically, uh, what I planned to do was to put a pond in over here...

Mike: Okay.

Scarlet: ...and have water streaming in from both sides. And then put a big deck right here, and then a flagstone patio there with sod in between. That would be pretty. And then to have twinkling lights above the whole thing so that every night is a starry one.

Mike: Heh. It's gonna be amazing, Scar.

Scarlet: What did you just call me?

Mike: Uh...I just said, "It's gonna be amazing."

Scarlet: You called me "Scar." My husband's the only one who ever calls me that.

Mike: Could you use some help? Volunteer. I'm young, I'm strong.

Scarlet: Oh. Oh. Right, got it. Okay. I realize that whole lady cougar hunting the "mothers I'd like to," you know, whatever, thing is big with you guys, right? With you high school boys? But that's not gonna happen between me and you.

Mike: I didn't even mean it that way. No, I was thinking more along the lines of business experience, college application. But if you want to go there, that's...

Scarlet: OK. So I'll just get you a shovel, then?

Mike: Yeah.

Scarlet: Okay.

 

 

Mike: I said, I said we could do it! Called it.

Alex: Did you see the look on Stan's face?

Scarlet: Alex? What happened at the tryouts? How'd it go?

Alex: It was good. Mark had a great tryout. He played great.

Mike: Yeah.

Alex: And so did I. I made the team.

Scarlet: Really? Oh, great! That's so good. I'm so proud of you.

Mike: Me too. He did great out there.

Scarlet: Oh, Mark. That's super inappropriate.

Mike: I... Good job today.

Scarlet: Good job!

Alex: Thanks.

Scarlet: I want to show you something. Come here. I wanna show you guys. Ta-da.

Mike: You hung the lights.

Scarlet: Yes.

Alex: Wow.

Mike: Wow.

Scarlet: I wanted you guys to be the first to see.

Alex: Mom, it's sick.

Scarlet: Really?

Alex: It's so good. Oh, my gosh. Mark. Mark, we should go practice, dude. The game's on Friday. Mom, such a good job.

Scarlet: What do you think?

Mike: It's amazing. When people see this, when people see how talented you are, you'll be designing gardens all over the city.

Scarlet: Really? Well, thank you, Mark. That's nice. Oh. I have to go. I have a date tonight.

Mike: You have a...?

Scarlet: I have to go.

Mike: You have a date?

Scarlet: I'm gonna go dancing, which is ridiculous because I'm a terrible dancer. So...

Mike: You're an amazing dancer.

Scarlet: What?

Mike: Hm? Ahem.

Scarlet: Wh...?

Mike: You just look like you can move.

Scarlet: Um, okay. I'm going to go, so have fun, Mark.
