The next day, we went to the hospital, and to our horror, found that he had lung cancer. He was terminally ill, and nothing could be done about it. That night I lay awake for a long time, then I smelled the smoke; this time I felt a strange pain in my chest, I panicked, because my Granddad had lung cancer, and it seemed that I could feel HIS pain in MY chest! When I hit the play button, my blood ran cold, the song that I'd selected, without thinking, was Hospitality, by Funeral For A Friend. The song was about someone who is on life support, and wants his family to let him die. I quickly selected a different album.

Eventually I must have drifted off to sleep, because I remember being woken by my mum. "Mum? What do you want?"

"Um, sorry love, but granddad’s died. Your dad just phoned from the hospital." Then I shocked myself. I answered, "Oh, ok." sounding as cool as ice.

我們又去了醫(yī)院,驚恐地得知爺爺患的是肺癌。 他病得很?chē)?yán)重,已經(jīng)沒(méi)有任何治愈的希望了。 那晚我躺在床上,久久都沒(méi)有睡著,接著我又聞到了那股煙味.這次我甚至能感覺(jué)到胸口一陣發(fā)疼,感覺(jué)很奇怪.我一陣恐慌,因?yàn)槲覡敔數(shù)玫木褪欠伟?好像我的胸口能感覺(jué)到他的痛! 那股煙嗆得我氣都喘不過(guò)來(lái).躺在床上,我痛苦的蜷縮起來(lái),根本不知道這到底是怎么回事。 漸漸地,我感覺(jué)沒(méi)有那么痛了,那股煙的嗆味也慢慢消失了.我躺在床上,害怕地直發(fā)抖,心里不知道這是不是真的,不知道我爺爺是不是想通過(guò)這種方式告訴我些什么.我真不知道該怎么辦。

那晚后來(lái),我就睡不著了.所以我從我一大堆的行李中把MP3找了出來(lái),想靜下來(lái)放松一下。 但當(dāng)我按下”播放”鍵后,我馬上毛骨悚然,因?yàn)槲蚁胍矝](méi)想,隨便選了一首歌聽(tīng),而這首歌由Funeral For A Friend唱的Hospitality。 這首歌是說(shuō)一個(gè)病人已經(jīng)病入膏肓了,所以希望家里人讓他死。 我立刻就另選了別的歌聽(tīng). 最后我肯定是不知不覺(jué)就睡著了,因?yàn)槲矣浀煤髞?lái)是被媽媽叫醒的,我說(shuō):媽媽,你干嗎呀?”

媽媽說(shuō):”對(duì)不起,親愛(ài)的,可是爺爺過(guò)世了.你爸爸剛才從醫(yī)院里來(lái)了電話.”

我用異常平靜地口吻回答說(shuō)”好的.”，同時(shí)，我為自己的這種平靜感到吃驚。
