Food wastage like that in the cartoon above is a serious problem today. It leads to higher food bills, obesity problems, higher waste disposal costs and a disregard for people who don't have enough food to eat each day. If we practiced thrift at home we would not only reduce our food bills but also our waistlines. It would also mean that our disposable incomes would increase and the money saved could be used for other things. Putting leftovers in the fridge that could be used later in the week is another way of combating food waste.

The responsible use of resources that are available to us starts at home. Reducing food waste sends a clear message to family and friends alike: Waste not, want not.
