本片是美國好萊塢歌舞片時代最杰出的代表作品，它不僅巧妙地揶揄和諷刺了好萊塢在從默片時代到有聲電影轉折期的混亂狀況，同時也集中羅列了大量美國20世紀20年代末到30年代大蕭條時期歌舞電影的懷舊歌曲，加以重新編曲，配以現(xiàn)代舞蹈，創(chuàng)造出許多膾炙人口、引為經典的歌與舞。
