Jennifer Aniston has disclosed that she no longer holds a grudge against her ex-husband Brad Pitt and his new wife, Angelina Jolie.
The actress said “people can do unforgivable things but you have to let it go.” Aniston’s comments appear to be an attempt to be draw a line under one of Hollywood’s most talked-about feuds after nearly a decade.
She told Harper’s Bazaar: “I think it’s extremely important to forgive. Otherwise it just builds up like toxic waste. There’s nothing worse than holding a grudge.”
Aniston’s marriage to Pitt ended in 2005, after the actor met Jolie on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith. The couple have since said they fell in love during filming.
Jolie, 39, and Pitt, 50, who now have six children together, married in the south of France in August.
In the interview Aniston, 45, said: “Listen, people can do unforgivable things, but you have to let it go and say, ‘Look, we’re all human beings. We make mistakes’.
“To hold any kind of resentment is like taking rat poison and waiting for the rat to die.”
The former Friends star told the magazine she was happier than ever with her new fiancé, actor and writer Justin Theroux, 43. She said: “He’s one of the most humble, decent human beings. It’s almost impossible to get bored with one another.
“We’ve tried so hard! And even that’s interesting because his eyes are so pretty, but we can entertain ourselves and talk about endless things, which is pretty great.”
She added that she was enjoying life in her forties: “When am I supposed to freak out? When am I supposed to feel like, ‘Oh, my knee! Oh, ouch!’ I don’t feel any of those things! I feel like our ageing marker needs to be rejiggered.
“I heard Halle Berry refer to her pregnancy at 47 as a ‘geriatric pregnancy’, which is ridiculous! It’s insulting. Obviously, as women we’ve evolved. I’ve had more fun post-40 than I can remember.”
There are already rumours Aniston could be in line for an Oscar with her new role as a woman in chronic pain in the film Cake.
