1. go on a binge *

Nancy's way of dieting reminds me of a roller coaster. For a few weeks she nearly starves herself by eating only vegetables and drinking water. Then after she's lost ten or fifteen pounds, she goes on a binge for about a week and eats everything in sight until she gains the weight back—plus a few pounds.

2. go on doing sth. / go on with sth. / go on *** 繼續(xù)做

3. go out for sth.

Imagine our surprise when big, strong football player Mark announced he'd be going out for a part in the musical My Fair Lady!He explained his interest this way: “It takes a lot more bravery and confidence for a man to sing on stage than to attack another player on the football field. ”

4. go out of one's way to do sth. / go out of one's way ** 付出很大努力;故意

解 習語;詞義溯源:為了做某事而走[脫離原來的路(out of one's way)]

例 With the death of Country A's President, Country B has gone out of its way to make sure it does nothing to provoke Country A during its sensitive transition period.

5. go over like a lead balloon *

The news that the comedian had once been convicted and jailed for raping a woman destroyed his career. Audiences gave him the cold shoulder and the same jokes that used to never fail to get a rise out of an audience, went over like a lead balloon.
