Each loved his beauty and his breath:

Leave us our life and we will bring fair gifts unto our lord, the king.

They went together. In the dew, a charmed bird before them flew.
露水清寒,兩人同時(shí)走向死亡,小鳥振翼,施以魔法悄然而至,
Through sun and thorn one followed it;
又飛來一只,穿過陽光下荊棘,
Upon the other's arm it lit.
落在臂膀,王子霎時(shí)全身通明。
A rose, whose faintest flush was worth all buds that ever blew on earth,
嫣紅玫瑰,綻放乃是最美宿命,嬌嫩蓓蕾,怎能錯(cuò)過世上花期,
One climbed the rocks to reach; ah, well,
枝蔓攀緣,拼命掙扎欲爬崖頂,
Into the other's breast it fell.
沒承想到,竟然跌進(jìn)他人心尖。
Weird jewels, such as fairies wear,
猶如仙女魔飾佩環(huán)叮當(dāng),
When moons go out, to light their hair,
粉墨登場(chǎng),月光流世,映亮凌亂毛發(fā),
One tried to touch on ghostly ground;
一位王子,觸摸陰森地面,
Gems of quick fire the other found.
另位發(fā)現(xiàn),生者寶石耀眼。
One with the dragon fought to gain the enchanted fruit, and fought in vain;
佩戴龍飾王子,拼命掙抱,施加魔法寶貝,轉(zhuǎn)眼不見。
The other breathed the garden's air
另位王子嗅到,芳香滿園,
And gathered precious apples there.
得來不費(fèi)功夫,奇珍異果。
Backward to the imperial gate
兩人潛回,皇家宮殿門口,
One took his fortune, one his fate:
各自帶回,財(cái)富或是噩運(yùn),
One showed sweet gifts from sweetest lands,
收獲豐盈者,上天饋贈(zèng)禮物,
The other, torn and empty hands.
雙手空空者,魂靈撕裂痛苦。
At bird, and rose, and gem, and fruit,
小鳥、玫瑰,寶石或異果,
The king was sad, the king was mute;
國王悲慟不止,緘默無言,
At last he slowly said: My son,
最后緩緩開口,兒子們,
True treasure is not lightly won.
真正寶物,并非輕易得到。
Your brother's hands, wherein you see only these scars, show more to me than if a kingdom's price I found
你哥哥的手,當(dāng)然你也看見,唯獨(dú)那疤痕,意義不同尋常,良心才發(fā)現(xiàn),難道王位價(jià)值,
In place of each forgotten wound.
就能忘記或替代,所有心靈傷口?
