There is a lot of regional stereotypes and lables in the US when it comes to characterizing each state: 說到不同的州，美國也有很多地域偏見、標簽

There are 50 states in the United States of America: 美國一共有50個州

Alaska and Hawaii were the last two states to join the union: 阿拉斯加和夏威夷是最晚進入的州

The lower 48 states exclude Alaska and Hawaii since they're not connected to the rest of America: 美國人常叫其它的48個州“The lower 48 states", 指的就是除去阿拉斯加和夏威夷

東北部州：歷史、高貴、龍蝦

The East Coast: 東岸

Some of the bigger states include New York, Pennsylvannia, Maine, Massachusetts: 比較大的州包括紐約、賓夕法尼亞州、緬因州、馬薩諸塞州

Philadelphia is Pennsylvannia's biggest city: 費城是賓夕法尼亞州最大的城市

Maine is known for their lobsters: 緬因州最出名的就是龍蝦

They played a huge role in America's founding history as some of the first few colonies: 這些州都是美國歷史中最早的幾個殖民州

Colonies: 殖民地

They later also became some of the 13 founding states: 他們后來也成為了13個建國州的一份子

Southern states: 南部州

Southern state Americans are stereotyped as God-fearing, gun-loving people: 在美國，對南方人的偏見是敬畏上帝、愛槍

Bible Belt states: 圣經(jīng)地帶

Southern states tend to be very religious: 南方人很多都非常虔誠

Conservative: 保守

There's a lot of dichotomy in the South: 南方也很矛盾

They're God-fearing, but a lot of them support gun ownership and capital punishment: 雖然他們愛上帝、不是應該愛和平嗎?但很多人都有槍、支持死刑

People from more liberal states such as California and New York make fun of southern states and imply that they're stupid: 比較激進自由的州，比如加州、紐約人?？床黄鹉戏饺耍X得他們傻

They've been the butt of many jokes for a long time: 南方人在美國一直被開玩笑

Despite these stereotypes, they are famous for their southern hospitality: 雖然有這么多對南方的歧視，但南方人的禮儀在美國是出名的

The lesser known states are basically the Midwest states: 中西部的很多州不太知名，比如：

Wyoming: 懷俄明

Nebraska: 內(nèi)布拉斯加州

North Dakota: 北達科他州

South Dakota: 南達科他州

No one knows what they are because there's not much out there: 他們不太出名，因為沒有什么特色

Illinois is known for Chicago and fields of corn: 伊利諾伊州最有名的是芝加哥、還有玉米地

Arkansas is known for Walmart: 阿肯色州最有名的是沃爾瑪

The "s" at the end of Arkansas is not pronounced: 注意發(fā)音，Arkansas是"Arkansal"

These states are also called "flyover states" since most people just fly over them: 美國人把這些州叫“flyover states", 就是飛機飛過去就夠了，不用專門停留

德州：狂野、彪悍、自成一格

Texas is a really big state, and Texans like to think they should be a separate country: 德州非常大，很多德州人常覺得自己就應該是一個國家

There's famous saying "Don't mess with Texas": 美國有句話，“不要惹德州人”

Valiant: 彪悍

Cowboy: 牛仔

They have a lot of pride in their history: 他們對自己州的歷史特別自豪

Texans tend to be very patriotic and have a strong sense of identity: 德州人的自豪感和對自己州的身份認同感都很強

More liberal states see Texans as moronic: 比較自由左派的州可能看不起德州

But many conservative states think people from liberal states like California and New York are full of themselves: 但是保守州的人覺得激進州，如加州、紐約的人都很自大、自我感覺太好

You see a lot of women with cosmetic surgery, breast implants in California wanting to bcome a celebrity: 加州有很多女生整容、隆胸，想做明星

People from states like California and New York aren't viewed positively by other Americans because they have a high sense of self-importance: 美國其它州的人覺得加州、紐約的人自大、矯情

They feel superior and look down on everyone else: 他們老覺得自己很優(yōu)越，看不起別人

Oregon: 俄勒岡州

The comedy show "Portlandia" has a lot of truth to it: 有個喜劇"Portlandia", 里面對波特蘭人的刻畫很到位

Portland is also referred to as the unemployment capital of America: 波特蘭也被叫做美國的失業(yè)首都

Treehuggers: 環(huán)保、熱愛大自然的人

Americans say Oregon is where the young go to retire: 美國人說俄勒岡州是年輕人去退休的地方

Portland is also famous for grunge: 波特蘭也是grunge音樂的發(fā)源地

Nirvana was probably one of the biggest grunge bands: 涅槃是最有名的grunge樂隊
