The Sun does arise, |

The merry bells ring |

The skylark and thrush, |

The birds of the bush, |

Sing louder around |

To the bells' cheerful sound, |
唱得更加嘹亮, |
While our sports shall be seen |
這時候我們游戲 |
On the echoing Green. |
在蕩著回聲的草地。 |
Old John, with white hair, |
老約翰,白發(fā)滿頭, |
Does laugh away care, |
笑著趕走了憂愁, |
Sitting under the oak |
坐在橡樹下面 |
Among the old folk. |
老人們中間。 |
They laugh at our play, |
他們笑看我們玩耍, |
And soon they all say: |
他們都這樣說話: |
"Such, such were the joys |
"當我們還是男孩女孩, |
When we all, girls and boys, |
歡度童年時代, |
In our youth-time were seen |
我們也這樣游戲 |
On the echoing Green. |
在蕩著回聲的草地。" |
Till the little ones, weary, |
孩子們乏了, |
No more can be merry; |
再不能玩耍了;太陽落山, |
The Sun does descend, |
我們停止了游玩。 |
And our sports have an end. |
多少小妹妹小弟弟 |
Round the laps of their mothers |
繞著媽媽的雙膝, |
Many sisters and brothers, |
像小鳥歸巢, |
Like birds in their nest, |
準備睡覺。 |
Are ready for rest, |
再不見孩子們游戲 |
And sport no more seen |
在越來越暗的草地。 |
On the darkening Green. |
