536　percent和percentage

① percent意為“百分之……”，前面必須有數(shù)詞，后面通常要跟“of+名詞”，構(gòu)成“數(shù)詞+percent+of+名詞”結(jié)構(gòu)，表示具體的百分數(shù)。本結(jié)構(gòu)中的名詞如果是單數(shù)，謂語動詞就要用單數(shù)；如果是復數(shù)，謂語動詞就要用復數(shù)。

Eighty percent of the earth is covered by water. 地球表面的80％被水覆蓋著。

Twenty percent of the students are from the south. 20％的學生來自南方。

② percentage意為“百分率，百分數(shù)”，前面常有l(wèi)arge，small，great，high，what等，但不可用數(shù)詞修飾，后面常跟“of+名詞”。有不定冠詞或what時，句中謂語動詞的單復數(shù)要根據(jù)of后的名詞而定。

The percentage of the failures is very small. 不及格的百分率很低。

A small percentage of his income is spent in buying books. 他收入的一小部分用于買書。

A great percentage of the TV sets in the shop are made in China. 這家商店出售的電視機絕大部分是中國制造的。
