427　lack，want和be short of

① lack強(qiáng)調(diào)所缺乏的東西，需要給予補(bǔ)充。

Whatever the child lacks in material comfort，its mother will make up in the form of love. 孩子在物質(zhì)享受上的所缺，他媽媽都以愛加以補(bǔ)足。

② want是出于個(gè)人愿望上的不足、缺乏，要求不一定那么迫切。

My study wants some decorations such as paintings and famous sayings printed on strips of paper. 我的書房缺點(diǎn)裝飾，比如說繪畫和印在長(zhǎng)紙條上的名言。

③ be short of的賓語往往是具體事物和物質(zhì)，而lack的賓語往往是抽象名詞。

This area is short of coal and other kinds of fuel. 這個(gè)地區(qū)缺少煤和其他燃料。（此句用 lack 代替 be short of 就比較正式，是書面體，不像平時(shí)說話了）
