102　base，basis和foundation

① base表示“基礎(chǔ)，根基，基地”，指具體物的下部、底座或支撐結(jié)構(gòu)，以使上面的東西豎立并穩(wěn)固；也用于指工業(yè)或軍事的基地。base作動(dòng)詞用時(shí)，要同on或upon連用。

The machine rests on a wide base of steel. 這臺(tái)機(jī)器固定在一個(gè)很寬的鋼架上。

This vase falls over a lot because the base is too small. 這個(gè)花瓶的底部太小，所以時(shí)常翻倒。

The airplanes returned safely to their base. 飛機(jī)安全返回基地。

② basis一般不用來(lái)指實(shí)物，而指思想、理論、抽象概念的“基礎(chǔ)，依據(jù)，原則”。
