A lot of English learners confuse the words job, work, and career.
許多英語學(xué)習(xí)者分不清job, work和career這三個(gè)詞。
Today, I’m going to teach you how to use each one correctly – as well as various collocations (typical phrases) in which you can use these words.
今天,我將教你如何正確使用每一個(gè)詞,以及如何搭配使用這些詞(典型短語)。
JOB (Noun)
A job is a regular and official activity that you do, and receive money (a salary) for your activity. It is also called a profession or an occupation. You can have a full-time job (around 40 hours per week) or a part-time job (around 25 hours per week).一份job是一個(gè)你會(huì)定期做的正式活動(dòng),并且通過這個(gè)活動(dòng)你能獲得金錢(薪水)。它也被稱為profession或occupation(職業(yè))。你可以有一份全職工作(每周40小時(shí))或兼職工作(每周25小時(shí)左右)。
When someone is looking for a job, this is sometimes called the “job hunt” or “job search.” If you have a friend who’s looking for a job, you can ask them, “How’s the job hunt going?”當(dāng)某人正在找工作,就稱它為job hunt或job search。如果你有個(gè)朋友正在找工作,你就可以這么問他:“How’s the job hunt going?”。
To find a job, you can check the job listings online or in the newspaper – these are small advertisements about job openings (job opportunities). The process of trying to get a specific job – when you send your resume or CV to a company – is called applying for a job.要找到一份job,你可以在網(wǎng)上或報(bào)紙上查看職位列表,這些都是關(guān)于工作職位空缺的小廣告。你向一家公司投遞簡(jiǎn)歷試圖獲得一份特定工作的過程被稱為apply for a job(申請(qǐng)工作)。
?
If the company offers you the job and you say “yes,” then you have gotten the job!如果公司給了你這份工作,而你答應(yīng)了,那么你就得到了這份工作
There are several different ways to describe a job, you can just describe as:要描述一個(gè)人的工作,你可以說它是:

WORK (Noun AND Verb)
The word work is more general than “job” – whereas “job” is a specific occupation/profession, “work” refers to general efforts and activities done to accomplish a goal. “Work” can be done both inside an official job and outside a job!
“work”這個(gè)詞比“job”更為寬泛而“job”是一個(gè)具體的職業(yè),“work”指的是為實(shí)現(xiàn)一個(gè)目標(biāo)所做的努力和活動(dòng)。Work既可以在正式在職期間完成,也可以在不在職時(shí)完成
?You can say you work at / for (a company): “I work at General Motors.”

The word work also refers to the context of your place of employment – so we can say:
work這個(gè)詞也指你的工作地點(diǎn),所以我們可以說
“I start work at 7 AM.” (not “I start my job at 7 AM”)
我在早上七點(diǎn)開始工作。(這里不用job)
“I finish / leave work at 4:30.” (not “I finish my job at 4:30”)
我四點(diǎn)半結(jié)束工作。(不用job)
– An informal way to say “leave work” is “get off work”
一個(gè)非正式的表示“leave work(下班)”的說法是“get off work”
“We go to work by car.” (not “We go to our job by car”)

“I went to the bar with some friends from work.”
我和一些一起上班的朋友一起去酒吧。
“I can’t access Facebook when I’m at work.” (not “at my job”)
我工作的時(shí)候不能上Facebook。(不用job)
“Work” is an uncountable noun, so it is not used in the plural:
Work是不可數(shù)名詞,所以不用復(fù)數(shù):
●I have three works to do this week.
I have three projects to do this week.
這周我有三個(gè)項(xiàng)目要做。
●I have three things / tasks to do this week.
