看到“A long face”,你的第一反應(yīng)是什么呢? 其實(shí)“A long face”指的是“板著臉”、拉長(zhǎng)著臉”、“不高興”。
A long face = an unhappy or gloomy; feeling disappointed or depression
Example:
Why are you pulling a long face, Jack?
Sara had such a long face yesterday after she learned that she failed her exam.
Why the long face?
Why the long face? = We use this expression when we notice that another person is sad or not happy and we want to ask why.
Why the long face? Is something bothering you?
You've just got a new job – you should be happy! Why the long face?
