The moment I saw the topic, a post originally submitted in Peking University BBS occurred to me.

The post composed of a conversation between a Chinese young man, the author, and a waiter coming from Japan.

消息上是一組對(duì)話包括一位中國(guó)的年輕作者和一位來(lái)自日本的服務(wù)員。

The author suffered frustration when the waiter asked him about Chinese culture.

當(dāng)日本服務(wù)員問(wèn)他關(guān)于中國(guó)文化的問(wèn)題時(shí)他顯得不知所措。

Surprisingly, the Japanese demonstrated

讓人們驚訝的是那位日本人

that he got command of more Chinese culture than most Chinese young people.

比中國(guó)年輕人更懂得中國(guó)文化。

I do not know what your initial response is supposing that you were set in the circumstance.

假如你在那樣的環(huán)境中你的反應(yīng)應(yīng)該是什么樣子的呢。

As a matter of fact, Chinese language course has drawn scant attention among college students,

事實(shí)上中文課程沒(méi)有引起中國(guó)大學(xué)生的注意

for many students lay their emphasis on English learning.

大多數(shù)的學(xué)生更重視英語(yǔ)的學(xué)習(xí)。

I am of opinion that Chinese language course should be set in the category of compulsory courses in college curriculum.

我認(rèn)為中文課程應(yīng)該列入到大學(xué)課程的必修課之中。

Firstly, it is high time for college students to re-learn Chinese language.

-首先大學(xué)生應(yīng)該重新學(xué)習(xí)中文。

For many Chinese students, they just learn Chinese language for examinationssake in elementary schools and high schools.

對(duì)于中國(guó)學(xué)生來(lái)說(shuō)在初高中他們只是為了考試而學(xué)習(xí)中文。

In other words, many learn Chinese language to get high scores

換句話說(shuō)學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)中文只是想獲得更高的分?jǐn)?shù)

instead of grasping the essence of Chinese culture.

而不是想了解中國(guó)的文化。

In fact, we can not measure ones understanding of culture by how many scores he get in the examinations

事實(shí)上我們不能夠從考試的分?jǐn)?shù)上衡量他對(duì)文化的了解程度

or how many poems and essays he has memorized.

或是他記住了多少文章或是詩(shī)歌。

What matters is whether one can figure out the gist and facilitate his life

重要的是他們是否可以了解他們生活的本質(zhì)

through what he gains from the learning.

尤其是通過(guò)他們所學(xué)到的知識(shí)。

In college, students are not imposed as much pressure as in high school in learning Chinese language.

比起在高中學(xué)習(xí)中文的壓力大學(xué)生的壓力相對(duì)較輕。

Besides, they are more mature than in childhood and have the ability to think critically.

除此之外他們更成熟在思想上更具有批判性。

If they do not seize the chance to re-learn the Chinese language,

-如果他們沒(méi)有抓住這次機(jī)會(huì)重新學(xué)習(xí)中文

odds are that they can not inherit wisdoms of our ancestors and not get prepared for the future.

那么他們很有可能將不會(huì)學(xué)到我們祖先留下的遺產(chǎn)他們也不會(huì)對(duì)未來(lái)做好準(zhǔn)備。

Secondly, since western cultures are looming large in China with the advent of globalization,

第二隨著全球化的發(fā)展西方文化降臨到了中國(guó)

Chinese traditional culture seems to be endangered.

中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化似乎受到了威脅。

Many people, especially the youth, are interested in learning foreign language,

特別是一些年輕人他們對(duì)外語(yǔ)更感興趣

English in particular, and their cultures.

特別是英語(yǔ)以及他們的文化。

They prefer to watch American movies,

他們喜歡看美國(guó)電影、

Japanese cartoons, and listen to foreign music.

日本卡通喜歡聽(tīng)外國(guó)歌曲。

While western cultural products are well received,

然而外國(guó)產(chǎn)品也在中國(guó)廣受歡迎

the popularity of the Chinese counterpart is on the decrease.

中國(guó)產(chǎn)品的購(gòu)買(mǎi)度正在下降。

When foreign cultures are so prevalent in China,

外國(guó)文化在中國(guó)大行其道

will our future generation figure out our Chinese cultural identity?

?我們的后代還會(huì)了解中國(guó)文化嗎?

As the basic manifestation of culture,

作為文化的基本表現(xiàn)形式

Chinese language deserves more attention and better treatment.

中文需要更多的關(guān)注度需要更好的對(duì)待。

Chinese universities should take the responsibilities to preserve

中國(guó)大學(xué)應(yīng)該有責(zé)任來(lái)保護(hù)、

and develop our traditional culture, Chinese language in particular.

發(fā)展中國(guó)的傳統(tǒng)文化特別是中文。

All in all, as traditional Chinese culture and wisdom manifest themselves in Chinese language,

總之中文展現(xiàn)了我們傳統(tǒng)文化也展現(xiàn)了我們的智慧

adopting the course in the curricula will not only educate college students,

增加中文課不僅教育大學(xué)生

but also help preserve and develop Chinese culture.

而且還保護(hù)發(fā)展了中國(guó)文化。
