Happiness is like a pebble dropped into a pool to setin motion an ever-widening circles of ripples.

快樂(lè)好似扔入池子里的一顆石頭，會(huì)激起不斷擴(kuò)散的陣陣漣漪。

As Stevenson has said，being happy is a duty.

正如史蒂文森所言:“快樂(lè)是一種責(zé)任。”

There is no exact definition of the word happiness.

快樂(lè)這個(gè)字眼并沒(méi)有精確的定義。

Happy people are happy for all sorts of reasons.

快樂(lè)的人可以因種種理由而快樂(lè)。

The key is not wealth or physical well一being，since we find beggars, invalids and so calledfailures who are extremely happy.

其關(guān)鍵并非財(cái)富或健康，因?yàn)槲覀兛梢园l(fā)現(xiàn)有些乞丐、病弱的人與所謂的失敗者他們卻是非?？鞓?lè)。

Being happy is a sort of unexpected dividend.

能快樂(lè)就是一種意想不到的好處。

But staying happy is an accomplishment, a triumph of soul and character.

而能保持快樂(lè)卻是一項(xiàng)成就，也是心靈與品德上的勝利。

It is not selfish to strive for it.

努力追求快樂(lè)不算是自私。

It is, indeed, a duty to ourselves and others.

事實(shí)上，追求快樂(lè)不僅是對(duì)自己也是對(duì)別人的一種責(zé)任。

Being unhappy is like an infectious disease;it causes people to shrink away from the sufferer.

郁悶不樂(lè)就像是一種傳染病;得了這種病的人大家都避之如蛇蝎。

He soon finds himself alone, miserable and embittered.

他很快就會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)自己孤單、痛苦、難過(guò)。

There is，however, a cure so simple as to seem，at first glance, ridiculous: If you don't feelhappy, pretend to be!

You discover how deeply rewarding it is to be the center of wider and wider circles of good will.

Then the make一believe becomes a reality.

于是原本的假快樂(lè)就變成了真快樂(lè)。

You possess the secret of peace of mind，and can forget yourself in being of service to others.

你擁有心靈平靜的秘訣，能夠忘情于服務(wù)人群之中。

Being happy, once it is realized as a duty and established as a habit，opens doors intounimaginable gardens thronged with gratefuls friends.

一旦快樂(lè)被當(dāng)作一種責(zé)任來(lái)履行并養(yǎng)成習(xí)慣時(shí)，它就會(huì)開(kāi)啟大門(mén)引領(lǐng)我們進(jìn)入想像不到的花園，而里面都是滿懷感激的朋友。
