When Mrs. Frederick C. Little's second son arrived, everybody noticed that he was not much bigger than a mouse.

弗里德里克.C.利特爾先生的第二個(gè)兒子出世以后，每個(gè)見(jiàn)過(guò)他的人都發(fā)現(xiàn)他并不比一只老鼠大多少。

The truth of the matter was, the baby looked very much like a mouse in every way.

事實(shí)上，這個(gè)嬰兒看起來(lái)簡(jiǎn)直就像一只老鼠，不管你從哪個(gè)方面看。

He was only about two inches high; and he had a mouse's sharp nose, a mouse's tail, a mouse's whiskers, and the pleasant, shy manner of a mouse.

他只有大約兩英寸高：長(zhǎng)著一個(gè)老鼠樣的尖鼻子，一條老鼠尾巴，一嘴老鼠的胡子，還有老鼠一樣可愛(ài)的、害羞的舉止。

Before he was many days old he was not only looking like a mouse but acting like one, too -- wearing a gray hat and carrying a small cane.

在他生下來(lái)后的很多天里，頭上戴著一頂灰帽子，拄著一根小手杖的他，不僅樣子像一只老鼠，行為方式也像。

Mr. and Mrs. Little named him Stuart, and Mr. Little made him a tiny bed out of four clothespins and a cigarette box.

利特爾先生和太太給他起名為斯圖亞特，利特爾先生還給他用一個(gè)香煙盒與四個(gè)衣服夾子做了一張小床。

Unlike most babies, Stuart could walk as soon as he was born.

和絕大多數(shù)的嬰兒不同，斯圖亞特剛一落生就能走路了。

When he was a week old he could climb lamps by shinnying up the cord.

當(dāng)他長(zhǎng)到一周大時(shí)，就能順著燈繩爬到燈上去了。

Mrs. Little saw right away that the infant clothes she had provided were unsuitable, and she set to work and made him a fine little blue worsted suit with patch pockets in which he could keep his handkerchief, his money, and his keys.

利特爾太太見(jiàn)了，立刻就知道了她以前給他做的嬰兒服已經(jīng)不合身了，于是就趕緊用毛料給他做了一個(gè)很小的藍(lán)外套，里面還縫上了衣兜，這樣他就可以在里面裝他的手絹，錢，還有他的鑰匙了。

Every morning, before Stuart dressed, Mrs. Little went into his room and weighed him on a small scale which was really meant for weighing letters.

每天早晨，在斯圖亞特開(kāi)始穿衣前，利特爾太太都會(huì)來(lái)到他的房間，用一個(gè)用來(lái)秤信的小天平給他量體重。
