　　In 1848 John Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Fort in California.

　　1848年，約翰·馬歇爾在加利福尼亞的蘇特堡發(fā)現(xiàn)了金子。

　　This western territory became famous.

　　這個(gè)西部地區(qū)變得出名。

　　Thousands of people traveled to California to look for gold. This was the California Gold Rush.

　　These people were called "Forty-Niners".

　　這些人被稱(chēng)作淘金者。

　　The first "Forty-Niners" arrived in San Francisco in February 1849 on the steamship California.

　　Others came to California on the Oregon and California Trail.

　　其他人來(lái)到加利福尼亞俄勒岡小道和加利福尼亞小道。

　　In 1849 almost 100,000 people arrived in California to look for gold!

　　San Francisco became a very important city.

　　There were many small mining towns in the California Gold Country.

　　Many "Forty-Niners" found gold, but only some of them became rich and important.
