Where you live can make a difference in your diet, says a study in the Journal of American College Health.Researchers at Washington State University compared the daily food choices made by male and female students who lived in dormitories with those who lived in fraternity/sorority houses and off campus. Big differences in the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish.unsweetened cereal, white bread, cookies and beer were identified.
Basically, the students tended to eat those foods that were most available where they lived. What’s more, they were strongly influenced by the eating habits of their peers. Men consumed more beer, meat and white bread than women. Women consumed more diet soda.
We are social creatures, generally content to make a meal of whatever everybody else is having. If you’re trying to lose weight and the people you eat with think pizza plus beer equals a balanced meal, you have a problem. You either need to change your eating habits or pack your bags!
