第十一章 數(shù)詞 序數(shù)詞（ordinal numerals)

　　1.表示順序的詞稱為序數(shù)詞。序數(shù)詞大多數(shù)由基數(shù)詞加-th構(gòu)成：

　　fourth(第四)，tenth(第十)，thirteenth(第十三)

　　但有些序數(shù)詞有特別的形式：

　　1)first(第一)，second(第二)，third(第三)

　　2)fifth(第五)，eighth(第八)，ninth(第九)，twelfth(第十二)

　　3)以y結(jié)尾的詞變y為i再加eth;如：

　　twentieth(第二十)fortieth(第四十)

　　4)兩位數(shù)的詞，十位數(shù)不變，個位數(shù)用相關(guān)的序數(shù)詞，如：

　　twenty-third(第二十二)，thirty-first(二十一)

　　forty-second(第四十二)，ninety-ninth(第九十九)

　　2.序數(shù)詞主要用作定語，前面一般加定冠詞：

　　She is the third child.

　　她是第三個孩予。

　　Their office is on the twelfth floor.

　　他們的辦公室在十二樓。

　　序數(shù)詞前面也有加不定冠詞的情形，有“再一次”的意思。

　　Tom tried a second time。

　　湯姆再試了一次(第二次了)。

　　序數(shù)詞有時用縮寫形式：

　　They took the elevator to the 85th floor.

　　他們坐電梯來到85層樓。

　　We celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the republic

　　我們慶祝了共和國成立五十周年。

　　3.日期都用序數(shù)詞表示：

　　May 23(rd)五月二十三日讀為May(the)twenty_third

　　July 1st七月一日讀為July(the)first

　　September 12th九月十二日讀為September(the)twelfth
