　　1.表語有時由從句表示，特別是that引起的從句(that有時省略)：

　　The trouble with you is you won't listen.

　　你的問題是不聽別人的話。

　　My opinion is that you ought to go together.

　　我的意思是你們應當一道去。

　　My secret hope was that one day I should become an author

　　我暗中希望我有一天成為作家。

　　What surprised me was that she spoke English so well.

　　使我驚奇的是她的英語講得這么好。

　　His only worry was that she might do something desperate.

　　他唯一的憂慮是她可能做出不顧后果的事。

　　Sophia's idea was that they should lock up the house.

　　索菲亞的意見是他們應把房子鎖上。

　　2.也有時可以是由連接代(副)詞或whether引起的從句：

　　The problem is who can be put in charge of the work.

　　問題是能派誰來負責這項工作。

　　That's where we differ.

　　這就是我們的分歧所在。

　　That's why I came round.

　　這就是我來的原因。

　　April is when the lilacs bloom.

　　四月是丁香花開的季節(jié)。

　　The point is whether we ought to recommend him.

　　問題是我們是否應當推薦他。

　　The question is what you are going to do next.

　　問題是下一步你準備怎么辦。

　　3.表語可以由關系代詞型的what引起：

　　That's what I ought to do.

　　這是我的本分(該做的事)。

　　That's exactly what I hope.

　　這正好是我希望的。

　　Power is what they are out for.

　　他們想謀求的是權力。

　　I want to be a teacher.That's what I want to be.

　　我想當老師，這就是我的志愿。

　　Times aren't what they were.

　　時代不同了。
