18 富蘭克林野營(yíng)
Franklin could count by twos and tie his shoes.

He could make his own snack and read a storybook too.

But one day ,Franklin didn’t try hard enough to do some things all by himself.

He’s only going camping overnight.

How much more does he need to take?

Mom!

Where’s my kite?!

Try looking in your toy chest, I don’t recall seeing kites on the list.

It’s not in here…will you find it for me?!

Oh Franklin.

Thanks Dad.

I knew it would all fit in there if you did it .

Dad…can you fold this, please?

There!

Looks like you’re all set.

Yeah! I can’t wait to get to Tamarack Lake!

A good camper should know all about knots.

Want to learn how to make a reef knot?

Okay!

It’s right over left, under then left over right and under.

See?

Here you try!

Awww!

I can’t do it.

Can you do it Dad, it’s quicker!

Uh…

I want to watch for Bear’s car.

Franklin, I think it would be a good idea if you tried to do some of these things for yourself.

Remember your Mom and I won’t be there at camp to help you.

Don’t worry Dad,

Bear will help me. He’s my best friend.

Yes, but as your grandfather used to say, you should always try to paddle your own canoe.

Oh yeah!

I can’t wait to go canoeing!

…Oh we’ll all go out to greet her when she comes.

Hi there!

Yes we’ll all go out to greet her when she comes…

Oh we’ll all go out to greet her and we’ll all go out to greet her,

yes we’ll all go out to greet her when she comes!

This is great!

I love it!

Wow!?

This is neat!

Ya!

Well campers, here we are!

You’re an enthusiastic bunch and that’s good, because camping isn’t just fun and games, there’s work to do too.

But if everyone does their part, I know we’ll have the smoothest running campsite this side of Lake Tamarack.

I’ll do my part!

Me too!

You bet!

That’s what I like to hear.

Okay campers let’s get to work.

Let’s go over here.

I’ll set up with you Fox.

Hey, wait up.

Aww…

Hey, Bear.

Will you undo this for me?

Sure Franklin.

Hmm.

How does this go?

Oh I see, I’ve got to pull this through here.

There you go Franklin.

Thanks Bear.

No problem.

Awwwww…This one’s not going in right either Bear.

Are you using that rock I found for you?

Yeah, but it’s still hard.

It’s supposed to be hard Franklin, it’s a rock.

I mean the peg is hard to get in the ground.

Hey Franklin, you were trying to put the wrong ends together.

That’s why you couldn’t get these tent poles to work.

You’ve got to help me Bear.

Okey.

You probably hit a tree toot or something.

Just move it over a little bit.

Remember what Coach always says, um, ‘if something doesn’t work the first time, you have to keep try in.’

But I can’t do it fast like you can, Bear.

Remember what Coach always say, ‘you can so anything if you put your mind to it.’

Coach also says you should help others, right?

And I could use some help right now.

I need someone to get the camp shower set up.

I’ll so it!

Why don’t you take care of this, Bear?

And Franklin, after you’ve got your tent flap tied down, I’ve got another job for you.

Where I want to put this.

Rabbit!

Hey, Rabbit.

Can you help me with my tent pegs, it’s kind a hard.

Sure, I guess so.

The pegs go in a lot easier with this rock.

Wait. Where are you going?

Coach said she has another job

Thanks a lot Rabbit.

Hemph.

Hmmmm?

Waa!

Hey, it works!

After your shower, you can hang your towel on my clothesline, Bear.

La-la-laaaa…

Awwwww!...Help me Bear!

Hey, Franklin, you’re not supposed to WEAR a clothesline.

…it got sort of tangles.

That’s for sure.

There…that was easy!

Um, can you tie it around the tree for me?

You can do it Franklin.

Use the slipknot that Coach showed us.

Can you show me how it goes again Bear?

Okay, Franklin

Now watch how I do this.

You go around the tree…and then you go like this to make a loop.

And then you come back through the loop lied this and pull it tight.

Now you do the other end

Franklin…

Huh?

And then you thread it under the loop like this…and pull it tight.

See?

You just have to do the same at the other end Franklin…Huh?

Weee!

Finished!

That’s a fine looking reef knot.

Off you go to the splash swing, Fox.

Yahoooo!

I’m done!

Me too!

Me three!

Yahoo!

Yippee!

Hey guys wait, I haven’t finished!

….I need someone to help.

I wish I’d watched how Dad did it.

Was that ever fun!

That was great!

Did you see how high I went?

Hey Franklin!

Did you do it yet?

No I didn’t!

And now I’ve missed my turn on the swing.

I called for someone to help me, but nobody cam.

They just wanted to go on the swing.

Franklin, maybe nobody came because they’ve tired of having to help you all the time.

But friends are supposed to help.

Yeah, but not ALL the time.

You’ve got to try by yourself first. And then, if it doesn’t work, you’ve got to try again.

I guess so.

But dong things for yourself is no good if you miss all the fun.

Don’t worry Franklin, there’ll be lots of other fun things to do.

But first, you’ve got to know your knots.

And I’m going to help you learn.

Thanks Bear.

Bear!

Bear?

D’you hear that?

Bear…you awake?

Oh-oh!

The tent.

Hey, I did it!

Hey everyone, come see Franklin’s tent…

It looks like someone dumped a giant bowl of spaghetti over it!

Huh?

How did this get here?

I did it!

Isn’t is great?

Our tent almost blew away last night.

So, I tied knots in all the ropes.

Just like you showed me Bear.

All by yourself?

No one helped?

Nope!

No one else was awake.

Well…What have we here?

Look what Franklin did to save our tent from blowing away!

Excellent!

I don’t think you’ll need to practice any knots today Franklin!

Thanks Coach.

Okay campers, we’ve got a busy day of canoeing ahead of us so let’s get moving.

Canoeing!

Oh boy!

Come on Bear, let’s go!

Do you want us to help Franklin?

Do you need a hand?

I’ll help you Franklin!

It’s okay.

My dad always says ‘you should always try to paddle your own canoe!’

So that’s what I’m going to do…

Watch!

Tada!

Ahhhhhh!

But he never said I’d get wet…

Yayyy for Franklin!

He did it all by himself!

Hooray!

Yippee!
