Today we are going to start with some really funslang, it’s stuff I use a lot
今天我們從有趣的俚語開始,我自己也會(huì)經(jīng)常用
Today’s slang is a word I really like. It’s the word“up”
今天的俚語是一個(gè)我很喜歡的詞,“上”
When you use it with “for grabs”, it meanssomething is available
當(dāng)你和“for grabs”一起用的時(shí)候,意思是某物是可得到的
Where did the slang come from? Well, the word“grab”means抓住
這個(gè)俚語從哪里來的呢?”grab”的意思是抓住
“Up for grabs” means that it’s available to grab. You can take it
“Up for grabs”的意思是你可以抓住
For example The designer at our company is retiring, so his position is up for grabs
例如,“我們公司的設(shè)計(jì)師要退休了,所以他的職位是可獲得的。
You are certainly qualified, and you should definitely come in for an interview
你的資歷很符合,最好過來面試一下。”
Those are the slangs for today. So let’s talk about something that will help you learn English
這就是今天的俚語。現(xiàn)在讓我們聊一聊可以幫你學(xué)英語的竅門
We heard you are interested in hearing our opinions on different ways on learning English
我們聽說你對學(xué)英語的各種方法感興趣
So here is one of our tips of what not to do
這里是我們給你的竅門,告訴你不要去做的一件事
I know that many of you out there are trying to improve your English listening skills
我知道很多人都在嘗試去改進(jìn)英語聽力
And the way that some of you do it as I know, is by listening to English songs
一些人通過聽英文歌曲的方式來嘗試
I love listening to music myself
我也喜歡聽音樂
but I don’t believe this is the best way to learn how to listen to English and understand it
但是我覺得這不是練英語聽力的最佳方式
You only learn and improve your listening skills
只有聽到并且聽懂每個(gè)詞的時(shí)候
when you register the sound of each word you hear and try to understand its meaning
你才能在聽力上進(jìn)步
And since English is your second language
當(dāng)英語是你的第二語言的時(shí)候
songs are probably not the best choice
聽英文歌曲可能不是最好的選擇
because the music changes the way the words are used and makes them more difficult tounderstand
因?yàn)橐魳防锏脑~的用法會(huì)讓你更難理解
Even worse, popular English songs might have confusing slangs in it
而且流行英語歌曲里會(huì)有令人困惑的
and they certainly have incorrect grammar
俚語和很多不正確的語法
For example, if you are a fan of rap, Nicki Minaj’s song Super Bass…
如果你是說唱音樂的粉絲,那你可能聽過妮琪?米娜的歌
Well, I have trouble understanding it
我自己理解起來也有困難
Here’s an example, and try to imagine me using this language in every day conversation
想像一下我在每天的對話里用這種語言
and think about if it would make any sense
想想它是否合理
I can’t imagine using those words, and definitely not in that order
我想象不到自己用這些詞,更不會(huì)按照這個(gè)順序
So you can also imagine listening to songs in another language
你也可以想象自己聽另外一個(gè)語言的歌曲
You might like the music, you may know the words, but how often can you understand it?
你可能會(huì)喜歡它的音樂,也可能知道里面的詞,但是你能懂多少呢?
And how often can you say that you are learning the language?
你又能多頻繁的說自己在學(xué)習(xí)語言?
One of the best ways to practice listening skills is
練聽力最好的方式之一就是
by talking to someone who is a native speaker or someone whose first language is English
和英語為母語的人對話
If you can’t find someone around you to speak with
如果你找不到英語為母語的人
then you can choose to watch a TV series or listen to a Podcast
那你也可以選擇看一個(gè)電視劇或者聽播客
So that’s our English tip for today, and now onto sentence structure
這就是我們今天的英語敲門,現(xiàn)在來講句型
Here’s our example, and see if you can understand it
這里有個(gè)例子,看看你能不能懂
The beaver chews down trees to get food and material with which to build its home
海貍把樹啃倒,然后把木頭當(dāng)作食物和建房子的材料
A does B to get C with which to do D
A做B去獲得C,然后用C去做D
A is a noun, B is a verb, C is another noun, and D is another verb
A是名詞,B是動(dòng)詞,C是另外一個(gè)名詞,D是另外一個(gè)動(dòng)詞
So to put our own words in the sentence
我們可以說
we say Alex studies hard to get good grades with which to apply for university
Alex好好學(xué)習(xí)去獲得好的成績,然后用好成績?nèi)ド暾埓髮W(xué)
Try to put some words and create a sentence of your own
你也試試吧
Remember, A does B to get C with which to do D
記住,A做B去獲得C,然后用C去做D
I hope you guys liked this class, and that you had fun. And I hope you learned something
我希望你們喜歡這節(jié)課并且學(xué)到了一些東西
