　　You put your foot in your mouth.

　　你說(shuō)錯(cuò)話(huà)了。

　　put your foot in your mouth按字面上來(lái)講是：“把自己的腳放到了嘴巴里”，可以聯(lián)想到這個(gè)短語(yǔ)的正確意思是：“不小心說(shuō)錯(cuò)話(huà)”。因此，當(dāng)美國(guó)人說(shuō)"You put your foot in your mouth."時(shí)他/她要表達(dá)的意思就是"You said something stupid or hurtful."、"You offended someone unconsciously by sayingsomething wrong."、"You said something unintentionally that embarrassed someone."。
