[00:01.54]We know that cars are bad for us.
[00:04.16]So why do we carry on using our cars so much?
[00:08.19]We all make excuses:
[00:09.88]"The busess always late!"
[00:13.26]"I haven't got time to walk."
[00:15.35]I'm talking about myself,too.
[00:17.32]I admit:I'm addicted to my car.
[00:19.40]When I asked Jeny Trowe of Greenpeace
[00:22.05]for advice about how to give up,
[00:24.38]she told me six things:
[00:26.61]1 Use your legs.
[00:29.43]Over 25% of car journeys
[00:31.54]are under two miles-short journeys
[00:34.64]we could easily walk or cycle.
[00:37.34]Leg power can save you money,
[00:39.36]keep you fit and help you live longer.
[00:41.98]And regular exercise cuts the risk
[00:44.03]of heart disease by 50%!
[00:47.26]2 Use public transport.
[00:49.52]On average,about forty people travel
[00:51.89]in one bus,
[00:53.25]while the same number occupy thirty-three cars.
[00:57.01]Sometimes it can take a little bit longer,
[00:59.04]but so what?
[01:00.47]You can relax on the bus or train,
[01:02.55]read a book, talk to someone,
[01:04.46]meet the love of yur life-who knows?
[01:07.53]3 Think berfore you go.
[01:10.22]Do you really have to go
[01:11.27]to that shopping center
[01:12.94]on the other side of town?
[01:15.14]What about the shops around the corner?
[01:16.81]Before you get into your car,
[01:18.79]think about whether you really need
[01:20.37]to make that journey.
[01:22.78]4 Share cars.
[01:24.77]If you've really got to use a car,
[01:26.55]share journeys with someone else.
[01:28.57]It is much cheaper
[01:29.83]and kinder to the environment.
[01:31.23]
