[00:09.00]Although the motor car was invented in 1889
[00:12.43]by a German man called Gottlieb Daimler,
[00:15.48]it was an American man called Henry Ford
[00:18.57]who created the motor car as we know it today.
[00:22.09]In 1908, Ford began production of the Model
[00:25.80]T Ford, the motor car that would change
[00:29.04]the world forever.
[00:31.27]The Model T Ford was the first mass production
[00:34.64]car in the world.
[00:36.48]Before 1908, when Ford's cars became available
[00:39.85]to the public,
[00:41.01]it was only the very rich who could afford
[00:43.11]to own a car.
[00:45.10]Ford found a way to mass-produce
[00:47.17]the motor car cheaply, making it possible
[00:50.20]for many more people to own one.
[00:53.13]The Model T Ford was simple,
[00:55.90]practical and cheap.It was a huge success.
[01:00.14]Between 1908 and 1927,
[01:03.24]Ford made and sold over 18 million Model T cars
[01:08.77]By the 1930s, people in America
[01:11.58]wanted something more then the Model T Ford.
[01:14.19]They didn't want cars to just be practical;
[01:17.91]they wanted them to look beautiful too.
[01:21.16]Soon car companies,like Ford,
[01:23.12]were forced to change their car production
[01:25.80]to suit the public's needs.
