[名詞用法]death可數嗎

1. 表示抽象意義的“死”或動詞作意義的“死”，通常為不可數名詞。如：

Death comes to all men. 人皆有一死。

Food poisoning can cause death. 食物中毒可導致死亡。

Ten people burnt to death in the hotel fire. 旅館失火燒死了10人。

Death occurred about midnight, the doctor says. 醫(yī)生說大約是在半夜死的。

但當表示不同人或多個人的死亡時，也可用作可數名詞。如：

A bad driver was responsible for their deaths. 他們的死是個技術不佳的司機造成的。

The police are investigating the mysterious deaths of children at the hospital. 警方正在這家醫(yī)院調查小孩神秘死亡的事。

另外，當表示某種類型的死時，也可用作可數名詞。如：

When we die for the people it is a worthy death. 為人民而死，死得其所。

2. 表示具體的死亡人數等，則為可數名詞。如：

There have been more deaths from drowning. 溺水死亡人數有所增加。

The number of deaths has risen to more than two dozen. 死亡人數已上升到24人。

The disease causes thousands of deaths a year. 這種疾病每年會導致數千人死亡。
