Well, this cumbered pilgrim's mind and he feared death no longer. The wise man turned to thesecond pilgrim and said, "What is it you fear, my friend?"
這除去了這位受苦的朝圣者心中的恐懼,他不再害怕死亡。此時(shí),智者轉(zhuǎn)向第二個(gè)朝圣者,并說道:“你有什么恐懼,我的朋友?”
"I fear my new neighbors," said the second pilgrim, "They are strangers who observe holydays different than mine! They have raised too many kids. And they play music that sounds likenoise."
“我害怕我的新鄰居,他們過著與我們不同的風(fēng)俗節(jié)日,他們有太多的孩子,他們播放的音樂聽起來就像噪音。”
"Ah, strangers," said the wise man. "I will take away this fear, my friends. Return to yourhome, and make a cake for your new neighbors. Bring toys to their children. Join them in theirsongs and learn their ways. And you will become familiar with these neighbors and your fearwill go away."
“啊,陌生人……我?guī)湍泸?qū)除這種恐懼,我的朋友。返回到你的家,并為您的新鄰居做個(gè)蛋糕,送給他們的子女心愛的玩具,接受他們的歌曲,并學(xué)習(xí)他們的生活方式。這樣你就能跟鄰居打成一片,你的恐懼也會(huì)自行消失。”
The second man saw the wisdom in the simple instructions and knew he would no longer fearthe family who were his neighbors. There in the cave so high in the mountains that nothingcould live, the wise man turned to the last pilgrim and asked of his fear.
第二名朝圣者在簡單的談話中得到了啟發(fā),而且覺得自己再也不會(huì)害怕鄰居了。這個(gè)洞穴位于高聳入云的深山中,沒有任何生物能在此生存。智者轉(zhuǎn)向最后一名朝圣者,并問詢他的恐懼。
"Oh, wise man. I fear...spiders. When I try to sleep at night I imagine spiders dropping from theceiling and crawling upon my flesh and I can not rest."
最后的人說道:“哦,智者,我害怕……蜘蛛。當(dāng)我試著晚上睡覺的時(shí)候,我擔(dān)心蜘蛛從天花板上掉下來,在我的身上爬,這讓我無法休息。”
"Ah, spiders," said the wise man, "No, shit, why do you think I live way up here?"
