The sorry-looking, blackened figurethat emerged, at once admitted that he had tried to break into the shop during thenight but had got stuck in the chimney. He had been there for nearly ten hours. Justicehad been done even before the man was handed over to the police.

　　語言點(diǎn):句子結(jié)構(gòu)分析:after chipping through…作時(shí)間狀語，為時(shí)間狀語從句的省略式，可還原為afterthey chipped through…。Which引導(dǎo)定語從句，修飾wall,說明是“什么樣的墻”。That引導(dǎo)賓語從句，交代found的內(nèi)容。

　　語言點(diǎn):句子結(jié)構(gòu)分析:as引導(dǎo)原因狀語從句，說明小偷被困的原因。By cutting a huge hole in the wall是方式狀語。

　　語言點(diǎn)1:句子結(jié)構(gòu)分析:第一個(gè)that引導(dǎo)定語從句，修飾figure。第二個(gè)that引導(dǎo)賓語從句，交代admitted的內(nèi)容。

　　語言點(diǎn)2:sorry-looking不可直譯為“看上去對不住人的”，而應(yīng)理解為“滿臉沮喪的”，經(jīng)常被用來形容“相當(dāng)狼狽”的樣子。

　　20.He had been there for nearly ten hours. Justice had been done even before the manwas handed over to the police.

　　他已經(jīng)在煙囪里被困了將近10個(gè)小時(shí)。甚至在那人還沒被送交給警察之前，正義就已得到了伸張。

　　語言點(diǎn)1:句子結(jié)構(gòu)分析:before引導(dǎo)時(shí)間狀語從句，注意，在翻譯時(shí)先翻譯后面的狀語從句，再解釋前面的主句比較符合漢語的表達(dá)習(xí)慣。

　　語言點(diǎn)2:hand over的意思是“移交”。
