上述例句中請注意如下部分——the 1,084 stepsleading to the fifteen-foot wall which surrounded the president's palace中的 leading to the fifteen-foot wall是steps的定語，which surrounded the president's palace是wall的定語。同樣是定語，卻選擇了不同的呈現(xiàn)方式，一個使用分詞后置作定語，一個使用定語從句。試問如果這兩處定語都改成定語從句會如何?即——the 1,084 steps which led to the fifteen-foot wall which surroundedthe president's palace. 很明顯作者之所以這樣考慮，是因為如果臨近語境中，兩次出現(xiàn)定語都用定語從句會構(gòu)成視覺重復，行文略顯單一平淡。同學們也可以把這個寫作技巧運用到自己的書面語中去，讓我們的行文更顯得多樣化。
