What to Do on the Day of an interview

On the day of an interview ,allow yourself plenty of time to get ready .and to travel to the place where your interview will be held .You may need time to relax .A last-minute rush means you will arrive flustered..

Think in advance about what you will do when the interview is over . Whether you emerge from your interview feeling high or low, you will need an activity to help you through the post interview period .You may want to speak to a friend ,go shopping ,or simply go for a walk or a cup of tea –anything to keep at bay a sense of anticlimax .

Before you speak you will be seen . The style of dress you choose depends on the company and the position you are applying for .Your appearance should indicate that you have a grasp of what is acceptable dress within the company. If the job is in an advertising agency , say ,it is appropriate to dress in high fashion .But it would be inappropriate to dress in that way if you were being interviewed for a job in a bank.

If you are in doubt about how to dress , phone the office secretary for her advice. Or you could go and stand outside the company building at the start or close of business ,and watch the employees coming or going . Within 15 minutes you will have a good idea of the dress acceptable to management , Perhaps it is more desirable to choose a slightly smarter version of what you would wear to work there.

Make sure that your outfit is comfortable to wear ,and that it suits you. Tailored ,neutral clothes are a good choice because they do not attract attention .You want to make a good impression ,but you do not want to distract the interviewer with an overpowering costume.

If you feel nervous ,try various relaxation activities. If you feel you need support ,ask an encouraging friend to accompany you and chat to you beforehand. If the reception or secretary at the place of interview does not seem busy ,strike up a conversation .This may help to relax you .

Finally ,take care not to walk into the interview room laden with all your belongings. Ask the receptionist where you can leave your coat ,shopping bags ,and other unnecessary things. When you go into the interview room ,take only a file of folder ,or a briefcase to hold any papers you may have to refer to .

Whatever you do to relax , you should also spare some time soon after the interview to jot down notes about how it was conducted .Were there any questions that took you by surprise ?Were there some questions which you would answer more successfully given another chance ?These notes will be valuable when it comes to preparing for future interviews.
