“跟屁蟲”原本指像影子一樣跟在他人身后(follow somebody around like a shadow)的人，引申為沒有自己的見解，盲目附和他人(repeat what others say)，或沒有自己的想法只會模仿他人的人(a person who copies what somebody else does because they have no ideas of their own)，帶有貶義。

“跟屁蟲”也可比喻跟在大人身后行動的小孩，是一個中性表達。
