One of the most influential and notorious advisers of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is in detention in Tripoli nearly a year after he first went on the run . The former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi was handed over by the authorities in Mauritania where he was arrested in March when he arrived on a false passport. Shares in the mobile phone maker Nokia have tumbled even as the company unveiled its new smart phone in New York. The new device is a result of a partnership with Microsoft. Theo Leggett reports.

The launch of the new lamia smart phone had been built the make-or-break moment for Nokia. The Finnish manufacturer once dominated the global mobile phone market, however, in recent years; shares have been declining rapidly largely due to the success of Apple's iPhone and products using Google's Android operating system. Investors had hoped that the high profile partnership with Microsoft would allow Nokia to recover lost ground. However, initial reactions to the new phone which uses Microsoft's Windows 8 software suggest it is not the gain change which experts say the company badly needs.

Scientists have published the most detailed analysis to date of the human genome. Fergus Walsh has more.

More than 400 scientists in five countries including Britain shared this project which explored the entire function of the human genome, the genetic blueprint of life. It's a huge task. There are three billion pairs of genetic code in our genome. Up to now, most of the researcher's attentions have been on just 2% of our DNA called genes. But writing in the Journal Nature, the team say they have found that 80% of our genome has a specific function. They have also discovered a vast rate of DAN switches, 4 million of them, which control genes.

The researchers say the information will provide new avenues for those trying to understand and treat disease.

Astronauts from the International Space Station have successfully installed a new power unite after four and a half hour spacewal k. The unite is one of four which powered the station with energy from solar panels. Last week's attempt to fix the unite was swanked by a jammed bolt. But astronauts have now solved the problem by cleaning the bolt with home-made brushes including one adapted from a tooth brush.
