She told the crowd that she was in "an induced coma for 48 hours," according to a fan-captured video that was shared on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.
She went on to thank her friend Shavawn, who was in attendance and rushed her to the hospital at that time. "There are some very important people in the room tonight that were with me at the hospital," she said. "There's one very important woman who dragged me to the hospital. I don't even remember. I passed out on my bathroom floor and woke up in the ICU. Thank you, Shavawn. She saved my life."
She also thanked her Kabbalah teacher for being by her side throughout the hospitalization. "The only voice I heard was his. I heard him say, 'Squeeze my hand,'" she said as fans proclaimed their love for the iconic singer.
The news of Madonna's hospitalization was initially shared by the Grammy winner's manager, Guy Oseary. He wrote on Instagram that Madonna was in the ICU following a "serious" bacterial infection. A couple of weeks later, Madonna spoke about the hospitalization for the first time in an Instagram post. "I have felt your love," she wrote. "I'm on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life."
At the show, she continued to be open about her health scare, talking about the first moments after she came out of the coma. "There were a couple of things I thought about when I first became conscious, and I saw my six incredible children sitting around me. By the way, I had to almost die to get all my kids in one room," she said.
Madonna took a hiatus from performing after coming home from the hospital but was able to resume her Celebration tour in October. When she returned to the stage, she said it was a miracle. "Less than four months ago, I was in a hospital and I was unconscious, and people were rethinking, predicting that I might not make it," she told a crowd in Belgium after her tour resumed. "So it's a f---ing miracle that I'm here right now."
She continued, "I had this strange thought. I suddenly had sympathy for my mother, not about the dying part, but how lonely she must have felt being in hospital, knowing that she wasn't going to live. And I was given another chance, so I'm very grateful for that."
