Number 1 Listen to each item of information.Then listne to the statement that follows.

Mary:In every way?
Carolyn: In most ways.Petrol,for example,is very expensive.
Bart:Yeah,I noticed when I...when I came in of the plane and paid for the bus,it was much more expensive.
Also when I bought-er-my beer in the pub.
Robin:Drinks?
Bart:Yeah,it costs a lot more.
Robin:Yes,I thought drinks would be more expensive in the States,especially spirits.
Bart:No,spirits are much cheaper.

Bart:No,I think it's less expensive in the States.The restaurants are anywhere.
Mary:Yes,and are they as good?Of course you don't know about that yet too well,do you?
Bart:You know,Robin.

MarY:What do you think,Carolyn?
Carolyn: Oh,I think hte-er-efficiectcy is exactly the same,but they are more expensive again,here.
Robin:Better service in the States,isn't there?
Carolyn: They're about equal.
Robin:I've heard.
Carolyn: But-er-the transportation service is so much better here than it is in the States.
Robin:In what way?
Mary:More efficient?
Carolyn: More efficient-er-better scheduling,more frequent.
Bart:I think more frequent,beause we...we don't have buses or-er-trains.
We have buses and trains,but we don't have as many.
Mary:That's surprising really.I...somehow though that because everything would be much bigger,
it would somehow be better organized in the States.
Bart:More people have cars.
Carolyn: Clothing is much less expensive here.
Robin:What about quality?Is the quality...?
